Desertscapes is a community in the middle of being rebuilt, and that is the most interesting time to walk it. Here is what a visit actually looks like.

What you will see
A visit takes in the grounds, the buildings and a home, and you will meet the people who actually run the place.
The grounds
The old turf is coming out and a desert garden is going in - 82 trees and more than a thousand shrubs, grasses and perennials chosen because they live on Albuquerque rainfall. Four of those plants give our floor plans their names, and you will walk past all four.
The murals
Every building is being repainted with desert-hill murals, hand-painted at two and three storeys by an Albuquerque artist. Some walls are finished, some are half done, some are still white brick. You see the work in progress.
A home
We will show you the plan you are interested in wherever one is available to walk. Renovated homes get new appliances, refreshed cabinetry, new counters and flooring, and an in-home washer and dryer.
Where people gather
The pergola, paver patio and built-in grill are in. The dog park, fire pit patios, cornhole court and bistro-lit walkways are still being built - ask what is finished the week you visit.
The office and the team
You will meet whoever is on that day - Jackie, Aida or one of the team. They can answer the things a website cannot: what is available, what it costs, and whether you qualify for an income-restricted home.
The neighbourhood
We are at 7303 Montgomery Blvd NE, minutes from shops, schools and the freeway, with the Sandias on the skyline. Ask about anything nearby and someone will know it.

Tours are by appointment. The booking tool is open every hour of the day, so you can pick a time without ringing during office hours.
